Daucus Carota (H) (Carrot Oil)
Has been used since the 16th Century for its cleansing, blood purifying and draining properties. This emollient, rich in carotene, is indicated for wrinkles, irritation, acne, dermatitis and rashes. |
DEA (Diethanolamine) (S)
Synthetic alkali used as an acidity regulator. Usually listed on labels preceding compound it is neutralizing. All DEA compounds are cancer suspects currently under investigation. Some research has shown DEA, used repeatedly, to be implicated in increased kidney and liver damage. |
Decyl Alcohol (N/S)
Antifoam agent and perfume fixative. Naturally or synthetically derived. |
Decyl Glucoside (N)
Mild foaming cleansing agent derived from corn oil. |
Decyl Oleate (N)
Emollient that facilitates good spreadability and provides good feel on the skin. Derived from Olive oil. |
Diazolidinyl Urea (NS/S)
Antiseptic and deodorizer. Also broad spectrum preservative. Can cause dermatitis and breathing problems if misted. |
Dimethicone (S)
Synthetic silicone compound. Antifoaming and reduces greasy feel and promotes good slip in hair conditioning products. Can be a waterproofing material for sunscreen emulsions. Like cyclomethicone inhibits skin respiration. A cancer suspect according to some sources. |
Disodium EDTA (S)
Preservative and viscocity adjuster. May cause dermatitis. |
DMDM Hydantoin (S)
Synthetic preservative. Contains formaldehyde which is a known carcinogen. May cause allergies and dermatitis. |
Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) (NO)
Natural skin firming agent derived from corn. Boosts effect of other antioxidants. It is especially effective for loss of skin firmness on face or body, fine lines above and below the lips, stressed or overtired skin. |
